SEO Article Writing Service: How to Buy One

An SEO article writing service sells words aimed at search demand, and the market for it splits into two products that share a name and almost nothing else. At one end sit content mills producing a fixed word count against a keyword for a per word rate, at a price that only works because nobody with subject knowledge is involved. At the other sit writers and small teams who interview your experts, learn the category and produce articles that a reader in your field would recognise as competent. Both can be bought by the article, and the invoices are comparable in shape. What differs is whether the output has any chance of earning a ranking or a reader, which is the only outcome you are actually buying. This page explains the pricing models, what separates the two, and how to test a service before committing to a monthly volume.

How to buy article writing that earns its place

  1. Start with queries, not topics. Every article should be traceable to a search someone performs and to what a reader wants when they perform it. A content calendar full of themes rather than queries produces volume nobody asked for, and volume is the most expensive way to fail at this.
  2. Buy a paid test article first. Commission one piece on a real topic at the full rate, with the same brief you would use in production. Samples are chosen by the seller; a test article is chosen by you, and it shows you the process as well as the prose.
  3. Ask who writes and who edits. Find out whether a named writer with relevant background produces the draft and whether anyone edits it before delivery. An unedited draft from an anonymous pool is a different product from an edited piece by a writer who understands your field, whatever the rate card says.
  4. Set the revision and rights terms in writing. Agree how many revision rounds are included, what turnaround looks like, and that copyright transfers to you on payment. These are cheap to settle before the first invoice and awkward to argue about once fifty articles exist.

How the market prices article writing

Three models dominate. Per word is the most common and the least aligned, because it pays for length and search engines do not reward length as such; if you buy this way, set a maximum as well as a minimum. Per article is cleaner, and the honest versions vary the price by research depth rather than by word count, so an interview based piece costs more than a summary of public material. Monthly retainers for a set number of pieces are the usual shape once volume is steady, and they should state who the writer is, how many revision rounds are included and what the turnaround is.

The largest genuine cost driver is subject matter access. Writing credibly about tax, clinical practice, engineering or law requires either a writer with that background or interview time with your own people, and both cost more than generic research. When a rate looks impossible for your field, that is usually what has been removed. Ask directly how the writer will learn your subject, and treat the answer as the real specification.

What separates useful articles from filler

Google's guidance on creating helpful, reliable, people-first content describes what the system is trying to reward: content produced for readers that demonstrates first hand experience or genuine expertise, rather than content assembled primarily to rank. Its spam policies go further and name scaled content abuse, meaning pages generated at volume mainly to manipulate rankings, as a practice that can be acted against regardless of how the content was produced. Between those two documents sits a clear buying instruction: pay for articles that could only have been written by someone who knows something, and be wary of any service whose main selling point is throughput.

In practice the distinguishing features are unglamorous. Does the piece answer the question in the opening paragraph, or circle it for four hundred words? Does it contain specifics, numbers attributed to sources, examples and a real opinion? Does it link to primary sources rather than to other content marketing? Would someone in your industry read it without wincing? Judge a test article on those questions rather than on keyword placement, which is the easiest part of the job and the least predictive of whether the article works.

Questions people actually ask

How many articles per month do we need?
Fewer than most services will sell you. A small number of genuinely strong pieces aimed at queries you can realistically compete for beats a high monthly count of thin ones, and updating existing articles that already rank often produces more than publishing new ones. Start low, measure, and increase only where you can see returns.
Is AI generated content acceptable?
Google's stated position is that it judges content quality rather than production method, while its spam policies target content generated at scale primarily to manipulate rankings. In practice that means AI assisted drafting with real expert review can be fine, and unreviewed bulk output is a risk to the site as well as a waste of the fee.
Should the writer do the keyword research?
Someone must, and it should happen before the brief rather than inside it. Whether that is your team, a separate strategist or the writing service, insist that each commissioned article names its target query and the reader intent behind it, so you can check afterwards whether it was aimed correctly.
How long before articles produce traffic?
Typically months, and longer on a newer site or in a competitive field. Watch whether pieces get indexed and start appearing for their intended queries at all within the first couple of months, since that early signal tells you more about whether the aim was right than the traffic figures do.
