Franchise SEO company options, compared on proof

A franchise SEO company is being hired to do one thing at scale that most agencies do once: make every location visible in its own neighbourhood without the locations competing with each other or with the brand. That is a governance problem as much as a marketing one, and it is why multi-location experience matters more here than in almost any other engagement. This index lists 134 agencies on what they publish about themselves, including printed pricing where it exists, so a franchisor or a franchisee group can build a shortlist from evidence rather than from a capability deck.

How to choose a franchise SEO company

  1. Settle who is buying before you shortlist. Corporate budget, a national marketing fund, or individual franchisees paying for themselves are three different engagements with different approval paths. The funding model decides what an agency can standardise and what it must sell location by location.
  2. Separate brand work from location work. Ask a candidate to split its proposal into what is built once for the system, such as templates, schema and governance, and what recurs per outlet. Price the two separately so the marginal cost of adding a location is known before you add one.
  3. Interrogate the location page plan. Ask what will make each location page different beyond the address, and ask to see a live example from an existing client. Near-duplicate pages at scale are the pattern Google's spam policies describe as doorway abuse, and the brand carries that risk.
  4. Check profile governance. Who owns and manages each location's business profile, how new openings and closures are handled, and how a franchisee sale transfers the assets. Duplicate or mismanaged profiles cause suspensions that cost far more than the work being bought.
  5. Fix reporting per location, not in aggregate. A system-wide average hides the locations that are failing. Insist on per-location reporting against a baseline, because that is the only view that tells a franchisor where the money is actually working.

What multi-location experience actually looks like

An agency that has run a franchise programme talks about process before tactics: a template that a hundred locations can use, a review workflow that does not depend on head office chasing individual owners, a way to onboard a new opening in days rather than weeks, and a rule for what a franchisee may and may not change. Those artefacts are the difference between a system that scales and a set of one-off projects billed at scale.

An agency without that experience tends to propose the same single-location plan repeated, which works until the twentieth location and then stops. Ask directly how many locations the largest programme they have run contained, who at their end managed it, and what broke.

The risks specific to franchise systems

Cannibalisation is the first: two nearby locations chasing the same searches, splitting reviews and confusing customers about which branch they are contacting. The fix is territorial clarity in the content plan matching the territorial clarity in the franchise agreement.

The second is scale-driven quality collapse. Generating pages per service per city is trivial and is exactly what Google's spam policies name as scaled content abuse and doorway abuse, with keyword stuffing explicitly covering lists of cities. Google states that sites violating the policies may rank lower or not appear at all, so a shortcut applied across a whole system is a system-wide exposure.

The third is ownership. Franchisees come and go, and profiles, domains and analytics tied to an individual owner or an outgoing agency become a slow, expensive cleanup at exactly the moment a new operator needs visibility.

Comparing quotes across a system

Ask each finalist for a per-location monthly figure and a separate brand-level figure, then model both at your current count and at the count you expect in two years. An agency priced attractively at twenty locations can be the most expensive option at eighty, and the reverse is also true.

Then check what the fee does not include: new location onboarding, profile reinstatement work, content refreshes, and reporting beyond a standard dashboard. Agencies in this index that publish their pricing give you public reference points for that conversation, and no agency pays to appear here.

Questions people actually ask

Should franchise SEO be bought centrally or by each franchisee?
Central buying gives consistency, better pricing and a single standard, but needs a funding mechanism franchisees accept. Local buying gives owners control and usually produces uneven quality. Many systems run a central programme with an optional local upgrade, which keeps the baseline standardised.
How many location pages is too many?
The count is not the problem; the sameness is. Pages that carry genuine local substance can number in the hundreds, while a dozen near-identical pages differing only by city name already match what Google's spam policies describe as doorway abuse.
Who should own the business profiles for each location?
The brand should hold ownership with the franchisee and the agency given management access, so an owner change or an agency change does not orphan the listing. Agree the transfer procedure in the franchise documentation, not in an email at handover.
Can an agency promise rankings across every location?
No. Google's own hiring guidance states that no one can guarantee a #1 ranking, and results vary sharply between a suburban outlet with two competitors and a downtown one with thirty. Insist on per-location baselines and forecasts expressed as ranges.
