Plastic surgery SEO services, compared on published evidence

Plastic surgery is one of the most contested categories in local search. The procedures are elective, largely cash pay and high value, the decision takes months of research, and the patient is comparing surgeons on trust as much as on price. That combination attracts every marketing provider in the country, and it produces a market where the pitch is uniform and the delivery is not. It also carries constraints that general agencies discover late: advertising rules on results claims, patient privacy obligations that govern testimonials and before and after imagery, and review platforms with their own healthcare policies. This page sets out what the work contains, what moves the price, and how to compare providers on evidence you can verify yourself.

How to shortlist a plastic surgery SEO provider

  1. Ask what they have shipped in an aesthetics practice before. Ask for two live practice sites they built or run, with the procedures they targeted and roughly how long results took. Aesthetics has its own competitive pattern and its own compliance shape, and a provider whose case studies are all in unregulated retail is learning your constraints on your budget rather than bringing them.
  2. Make them explain how they handle patient imagery and testimonials. Before and after galleries and patient stories are the highest converting assets on a surgical site and the ones most likely to create a problem. Ask who obtains and stores the authorisation, how images are labelled, and what disclosure sits alongside any result. A provider without a settled answer will hand that risk back to your front desk.
  3. Separate procedure demand from surgeon demand. Patients search for a procedure in a city and they also search for a named surgeon after a referral. Those need different pages and produce very different enquiry quality. Ask each candidate how they would split the programme between the two and how consultations from each will be tracked separately in reporting.
  4. Get the disclosed minimum, the term and the exit terms. Ask for the smallest engagement accepted, the shortest term, and exactly what you keep if you leave: the site, the content, the analytics property, the Google Business Profile and the ad accounts. In a category with retainers this size, an unclear exit is the difference between changing providers and starting over.

What this index records about aesthetics providers

We record what each agency states on its own website, dated at the point we checked it: published pricing or a starting retainer, any disclosed minimum engagement, named clients or case studies, and which services are delivered in house rather than subcontracted. Awards, badges and paid directory placements are excluded, because they are self reported or purchased and predict nothing about cost or delivery.

In aesthetics, published pricing is less common than in most categories. Providers know the buyer is a high value practice and prefer to scope in a consultation, which means the disclosed minimum engagement is often the only comparable number you can get without a call. Ask for it by email from every candidate before you book anything. The reply rate alone will narrow your list.

What moves the price for a surgical practice

Market density is the first driver. A practice competing in a metro with dozens of established surgeons needs far more content, technical work and authority building than one in a mid sized city, and honest agencies price that difference openly. The second is the number of procedures you want to be found for, since each meaningful procedure needs its own well written page rather than a paragraph on a services list, plus supporting material answering recovery, cost and candidacy questions.

The third is the compliance layer. Claims about outcomes, testimonials and endorsements carry advertising obligations, and the FTC's endorsement guides set out what an advertiser is responsible for when a patient's experience is presented as typical. Reviewing that properly takes time from someone who knows the rules, and providers who do it build the cost in. Those who do not are cheaper because they have moved the risk onto you without telling you.

How to read a proposal in this category

Discount anything guaranteeing a ranking position or a number of new patients. Nobody controls Google's results, and a patient volume promise depends on your consultation conversion, your pricing and your schedule, none of which the agency touches. Look instead for a proposal that says which procedures it targets and why, what it will do to the site's existing pages before adding new ones, and how consultations will be attributed.

Ask directly what the agency would not do. In aesthetics, a provider with judgement will decline something: a procedure the practice is not credentialed for, a claim that cannot be supported, a review solicitation shortcut, an aggressive comparison page. That refusal is the clearest evidence you will get that they have worked in the category before, and it is worth more than a portfolio of screenshots.

Questions people actually ask

How long does search marketing take to bring surgical consultations?
Longer than most owners are told. Technical fixes and listing work can move visibility within weeks, but competitive procedure pages in a dense metro usually take several months to settle, and the patient's own research cycle adds more time between first visit and booked consultation. Ask a candidate to state which outcomes they expect in which window, in the proposal, and hold each monthly report against that.
Are before and after photos safe to use for marketing?
They are standard practice, but only with proper written patient authorisation covering the specific use, and with disclosure that results vary. Treat the authorisation, storage and labelling process as part of the scope you are buying, and confirm in writing who is responsible for obtaining it. Where an agency assumes your staff will handle all of that, price that work into your side of the ledger.
Should a practice run ads alongside organic search?
Frequently yes, because elective procedure clicks are expensive but the value of a booked case is high, and paid search fills the gap while organic pages mature. Keep media budget and management fee separately stated so you can see how much reaches the platforms. Also confirm the agency understands platform policies for health and appearance related advertising before spending.
What should I keep if I change agencies?
The website and its content, the domain, the analytics property, the Google Business Profile, the ad accounts and any tracking numbers. Ask for all of it in the contract, and check that accounts are created under your ownership with the agency granted access, rather than the reverse. This one clause is the difference between a provider change taking a week and taking a quarter.
