Automotive SEO services, compared on published evidence

Automotive search covers three quite different businesses that are usually sold one product: franchise dealerships tied to manufacturer website platforms, independent used-car lots that own their own site outright, and service and repair shops competing on local intent alone. The constraints differ enough that a program built for one will underperform for another, and the platform question in particular decides what an agency can actually change. This index compares automotive providers on what they publish about themselves, with dates, and this page explains how that comparison is assembled and how to read it against your own situation.

How we compare automotive providers

  1. Record published prices with dates. Every price and minimum in the index comes from the agency's own page, captured with the URL and the date read. Agencies that publish nothing are recorded as publishing nothing, which is itself useful when you are deciding where to spend sales calls.
  2. Check platform experience explicitly. Franchise dealers usually sit on a manufacturer-approved website platform with limited template control. We look for described experience with that constraint, because an agency that cannot edit templates is selling advice your platform vendor has to implement.
  3. Separate inventory pages from content. Vehicle detail pages turn over constantly as stock sells, so their indexing behaviour is a technical discipline of its own. We note whether an agency describes real work on inventory handling rather than only blog and landing page production.
  4. Note the service side, not just sales. Fixed operations often produce steadier margin than vehicle sales. We record whether an agency describes work on service, parts and repair intent, which is a different search surface from shopping-stage vehicle queries.

The three automotive businesses and what each needs

A franchise dealership competes with its own manufacturer's national site and with large listing marketplaces for shopping-stage queries, and it usually cannot change much of its own template. The realistic wins are local intent around the dealership name and location, service and parts content, and whatever custom pages the platform permits. An agency that proposes a full technical rebuild without asking which platform you are on has not done the first thing a competent one would.

An independent lot owns its site and can change anything, which makes technical and content work far more productive, but it has less brand demand to capture and must earn its visibility from scratch. A service and repair shop is a local business first: consistent business information, structured data such as Google's LocalBusiness markup, honest reviews, and a substantial page per service rather than one list of everything.

What moves the price and what should not

Content volume and location count drive most of the number, as in any local category. Automotive adds two specific cost drivers: inventory handling, because thousands of vehicle pages appearing and disappearing is a genuine technical problem, and multi-rooftop groups, where each location needs real differentiated content rather than a template with the city name swapped.

Google's spam policies name doorway pages, meaning multiple pages targeted at particular places that funnel users to one destination, and scaled content abuse, meaning pages generated primarily to manipulate rankings rather than help users. Both describe patterns that appear in cheap automotive packages, and Google states that sites violating the policies may rank lower or not appear at all. Ask any provider to describe its content and link sourcing in writing before signing.

Evidence to ask a shortlisted agency for

Ask for a dealer or shop of comparable size and platform who will take a call, and use that call to ask what the agency did in the first ninety days. Ask for read-only Search Console access during any audit, never write access. Ask what transfers to you at the end: content, tracking configuration, ad accounts and research.

Then ask how success will be measured. Vehicle detail page impressions and blog traffic are easy to grow and easy to misread. Service appointments booked, parts enquiries, phone calls from non-branded searches and lead form submissions are the figures that connect to the business, and an agency comfortable reporting them is telling you something about its confidence.

Questions people actually ask

Can an agency do real SEO work on a manufacturer website platform?
Partly. Template-level changes usually require the platform vendor, so the agency's leverage sits in content the platform permits, local surface work, and structured recommendations the vendor implements. Ask candidates to describe exactly which changes they can ship themselves on your platform.
How should inventory pages be handled?
Vehicle detail pages appear and disappear as stock moves, so the technical questions are how sold vehicles are handled, whether thin duplicate listings are being generated, and how internal linking surfaces current stock. An agency that has not thought about this is not an automotive specialist.
Is service and parts work worth including?
Usually yes. Fixed operations carry steady demand and less competition from national marketplaces than vehicle shopping queries, and the searches are unambiguously local. Many programs under-invest there because sales gets the attention.
What does automotive search work cost?
The index records what agencies publish themselves, dated, rather than quoting an industry average. Expect the number to rise with location count, content volume and whether the agency implements changes or only recommends them.
