Electrician digital marketing company, compared on evidence

Electrical contractors buy marketing under conditions most agencies never design for. Revenue splits between emergency calls that convert in minutes and planned work like panel upgrades, EV charger installs and standby generators that a homeowner researches for weeks. A campaign tuned for one starves the other. Add licensing that varies by state, a service radius that rarely matches a city boundary, and a crew size that caps how much demand you can absorb before it turns into missed appointments, and the shortlist question stops being who writes the best copy. It becomes who can show they have run this trade before, and who will put their pricing and their minimum in writing before you spend an hour on a discovery call.

How to shortlist an electrical marketing provider

  1. Separate emergency demand from planned project demand. Write down roughly what share of last year's revenue came from same day calls versus scheduled installs, then ask each candidate how they would split budget, pages and tracking between the two. A provider who quotes a single blended plan without asking that question first is selling a template with your trade name inserted.
  2. Check the service radius against how your crews actually dispatch. Proximity is a strong factor in local results, so an agency should ask where your vans start the day and which towns you will genuinely drive to before it proposes a page for every suburb within an hour. Ask what they intend to do with leads from the edge of the radius that you would rather decline.
  3. Ask for the disclosed minimum and the shortest term. Get the smallest engagement a candidate will accept and the shortest contract term in writing before any call. That one email removes more names from a shortlist than any proposal review, and a published starting price should be read as a floor for the narrowest possible scope rather than a forecast of your programme.
  4. Define a lead before the first invoice. A form fill, a ringing phone, a booked appointment and a completed job are four different numbers, and contractors routinely discover in month four that the report carries the first while the owner was counting the last. Agree the definition, agree who owns the ad account and the analytics property, and put both in the contract.

What this index records about electrical marketing providers

We record what each agency states on its own website, with the date we checked it: published pricing or a published starting retainer, a disclosed minimum engagement, named clients or case studies, and which services are delivered in house. We do not record awards, badges or survey rankings, because those are bought or self reported and tell a buyer nothing about what an engagement will cost or contain.

In the trades the pattern is consistent. Providers selling to one and two van shops publish a starting price more often, because price is how they compete against franchise marketing programmes and lead resellers. Providers selling multi branch programmes to larger contractors publish nothing and scope everything in a call. Neither habit predicts quality. It only predicts how much work you will have to do to make two quotes comparable, and knowing that before you start saves a week.

What actually moves the price for an electrical contractor

Three things move it more than anything an agency says about strategy. The first is how many locations and service areas you need to be visible in, because each genuine location carries listing work, review handling and pages that have to be written rather than duplicated. Google's own documentation on local business structured data sets out the properties a business can mark up, including address, hours and geographic detail, and keeping that consistent across several locations is unglamorous recurring work.

The second is whether paid search runs alongside the organic programme, since emergency electrical clicks are among the more expensive in home services and management fees usually scale with the spend. The third is content volume: an EV charger or generator page that answers a homeowner's real questions takes a writer who understands load calculations and permits, and agencies price that differently from a blog post. Ask which of the three your quote is mostly paying for, and the numbers stop looking arbitrary.

Questions people actually ask

Should an electrical contractor run ads or wait for organic results?
Most run both, for different reasons. Paid search buys immediate visibility on emergency queries where the caller picks whoever answers, and it can be switched off when the schedule is full. Organic and local listings build the cheaper, slower base of demand for planned work. If your crew capacity is already saturated, adding ad spend simply raises your cost per job without adding revenue, so fix scheduling before you raise budget.
Is a marketing agency the same as buying leads from a lead network?
No, and mixing them up is the most expensive confusion in the trades. A lead network sells the same enquiry to several contractors and you compete on how fast you call back. An agency builds assets you keep: a site that ranks, listings you control, reviews attached to your own profile. Lead networks can fill a slow week. They do not compound, and you cannot take them with you when the price rises.
How long before an electrical marketing programme shows results?
Paid search produces calls in days. Local listing work often moves within weeks, because claiming profiles, fixing categories and building review flow are fast corrections. Organic rankings for install and upgrade queries typically take several months to settle. Ask any candidate to state, in the proposal, which of their promised outcomes belong in which window, then hold the monthly report against that.
What should I ask for before signing anything?
Ask for the smallest engagement they accept, the term, what is delivered in house versus subcontracted, who owns the accounts and the website if you leave, and two named clients in the trades you can contact. Every one of those is answerable in an email. A provider that will only answer them after a sales call has told you something about how the relationship will run.
