Choosing a Georgia SEO company on published evidence

Georgia is a state with one dominant metro and a great deal of commerce outside it, and search buyers here fall into two camps that rarely admit they are different. Inside the Atlanta perimeter and the suburbs around it, local competition is dense, agencies are plentiful and the map pack is contested street by street. Outside it, in Savannah, Augusta, Columbus, Macon and the smaller towns, the competition is thinner and the bigger problem is finding a provider who will take the work seriously at a sensible price. This page shows what the firms in our index publish about price, minimum engagement and named clients, and gives you a sequence for comparing them without relying on a sales call.

How to shortlist a Georgia SEO company

  1. Define your geography honestly. A statewide claim and a metro claim are different programmes. Serving all of Georgia means real pages for the places you genuinely cover and the operational ability to serve them, while serving north Atlanta means depth in a small radius. Decide which you are, in writing, before any agency writes it for you in a proposal.
  2. Get the minimum engagement in writing. Ask each candidate for the smallest engagement they accept and what it includes. Published starting prices are floors for the narrowest scope, not forecasts. This one question cuts a shortlist faster than any other and reveals which firms price by scope and which price by what they think you can pay.
  3. Read three pages they wrote. Ask for links to live pages produced for a client in a comparable trade, then read them the way a customer would. Writing quality is the least disguisable part of this trade and the easiest to check, and it tells you what your own pages will read like far more reliably than a case study summary.
  4. Own the accounts before work starts. Create the analytics property and Search Console profile in your own name and grant access to the agency. Agree what counts as a countable enquiry and how phone calls are attributed. This costs nothing at the start of a relationship and is expensive or impossible to reconstruct at the end of one.

Atlanta pricing and the rest of the state

Agencies inside the metro price against metro competition, which is reasonable when you are competing there and expensive when you are not. A firm in Savannah or Macon competing against three local rivals does not need an Atlanta contested market retainer, and a good agency will say so. Conversely, a business trying to win Atlanta legal, home services or healthcare queries on a small town budget is buying disappointment, because the competitors in those results are spending continuously.

Our index records what each firm publishes rather than what it charges in a room, which means you can see who has committed to a number in public. That disclosure is uncommon in this trade, and while it does not prove quality it does show the firm has decided which buyers it is not for. Where nothing is published, plan to extract the same three facts by email from each candidate so the comparison stays symmetrical.

What good work looks like in the first quarter

A technical audit and the repairs it finds, a documented query list you have actually approved, business profile and listing consistency if you serve local customers, and the first genuine pages published. That is a full quarter of work for most sites, and it should be visible to you as things that exist rather than as a report describing activity.

The warning sign is a first quarter consisting of onboarding, a strategy document and monthly blog posts. That programme can run for a year while the pages a customer would need still do not exist. Ask any candidate to describe month one, month three and month six as deliverables you could point at, and hold the proposal to it.

Questions that reveal how a firm operates

Ask what is subcontracted, who writes, who does technical work, and who you speak to when something breaks. Ask what they would tell you if the programme were not working, and what evidence would trigger that conversation. Ask how many clients each account manager carries, because that number predicts responsiveness better than anything on a website.

Then ask about exit terms: who owns the content, the analytics history and any pages built on infrastructure the agency controls. Firms that answer these plainly before a contract are usually the same firms that report plainly during one, and the conversation costs you nothing but an email.

Questions people actually ask

Do I need an agency inside Atlanta?
Only if your customers are there. For local work, an agency that knows the difference between Alpharetta and Decatur writes better service pages. For statewide or national work, location is a preference rather than a qualification and filtering on it removes strong candidates for no benefit.
Why do quotes for the same work vary so widely?
Because the scope behind them varies more than the label suggests. Query competitiveness, how many pages must be produced and how much technical repair the site needs first are the three real drivers. Reduce every quote to the same rows before comparing, and the spread usually turns out to be reporting and volume rather than aim.
How long should the contract be?
Three to six months as a minimum is fair for work that takes a quarter to show movement, then rolling with a short notice period. Treat twelve month terms with no break clause as a risk transfer to you, particularly from firms that publish nothing about pricing or minimums.
Can I check a case study myself?
Yes, and you should. Find the named client, confirm the pages described exist, and where possible call them. An unnamed case study can be verified by nobody, which is why our index records named clients as a separate field from claimed results, with the date we read the claim.
