B2B web design companies, compared on what they publish

A business-to-business website is a sales instrument, not a brochure. It has to survive a procurement review, answer a technical evaluator's questions without a demo, and hand a qualified enquiry to a human being who will spend months closing it. That is a different brief from consumer web design, and it is why the firms that do it well tend to talk about buying committees, proof and page speed rather than about visual direction. This index compares B2B web design companies on the evidence they publish: pricing where they print it, disclosed minimums, and named client work that can be checked on their own site.

How to choose a B2B web design company

  1. Ask who writes the words. On a B2B site the copy is the product and design is the delivery mechanism. Ask whether writing is included, who does it, and whether they interview your customers or your sales team. A firm that expects you to supply final copy has quoted a build, not a website.
  2. Protect the search equity you already have. A redesign that changes URLs can cost months of traffic if the redirects are wrong. Google publishes a specific procedure for moving a site with URL changes, including mapping old URLs to new ones and monitoring afterwards. Ask each finalist to describe their migration plan before you look at a single mockup.
  3. Agree the platform and who can edit. Ask which CMS, whether your team can add a page without a developer, and what a new template costs after launch. Sites that need the agency for every change turn a one-time project into a permanent dependency, and that dependency is rarely priced in the proposal.
  4. Test the firm's best work in real conditions. Ask to see a live site they built, then load it on a phone on a weak connection and try to find pricing, a technical specification and a way to contact sales. If that takes more than a minute on their showcase work, it will take longer on yours.

What moves the price of a B2B website

Three variables dominate. The first is page count and template count, which are not the same thing: forty pages built from six templates is a far smaller job than forty bespoke layouts. The second is integration, because a site that has to talk to a CRM, a marketing automation platform, a demo scheduler and a customer portal is partly a software project. The third is content, since original writing, photography, diagrams and case studies are usually the largest hidden line, and the firms that quote lowest are generally the ones assuming you will supply all of it.

Ask every finalist to price the same written brief, listing templates, integrations, who writes and who supplies imagery. Proposals that looked incomparable become comparable immediately, and the gaps between them usually reveal what each firm quietly assumed you would do yourself.

Evidence worth checking before you shortlist

Published pricing is the strongest signal a web design firm can give, because a printed starting figure commits it to a scope. A disclosed project minimum is nearly as useful: it tells you whether your budget sits at the bottom of their range, where projects get junior teams, or in the middle, where they get attention.

After that, check named clients on the firm's own site, and check whether those clients still run the site the firm built. Google's guidance on hiring search help recommends asking for examples of previous work and asking past clients whether the service was useful. For a website project, add one question: what happened in the six months after launch, and who fixed what broke.

Questions people actually ask

How long does a B2B website take?
Most substantive builds run a few months rather than a few weeks, and the long pole is almost always content rather than design or development. If you want a fast project, have the writing, the diagrams and the case studies ready before the kick-off meeting.
Will a redesign hurt our search traffic?
It can, and the usual cause is URL changes without correct redirects. Google publishes a site move procedure covering URL mapping, redirects and monitoring after launch. Make the migration plan part of the contract, and hold back a portion of payment until traffic is verified post-launch.
Should the same firm do design and search work?
It can work, but insist on evidence for both. Many strong design firms subcontract search work, and many search agencies produce weak design. Ask directly who does which part, and whether the search specialist is on staff or hired for the project.
Who owns the site when we part ways?
You should own the domain, the hosting account, the CMS licence and the code. Confirm all four in writing before the project starts, because a beautiful site you cannot move or edit is a liability rather than an asset.
